EARLY LITERACY LINKS FOR TEACHERS
AND PARENTS
There are many wonderful resources available for both parents and teachers that pertain to early literacy practices and activities. Research has shown that since the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act (2001) early intervention practices have been on the rise (http://www.ncsl.org/research/education/literacy-no-child-left-behind.aspx).
RESEARCH & EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES
Research supports evidence-based practices to be used at all three levels of intervention. Tier I, II, & III and RTI. Differentiated instruction practices and activities are accompanied with a multitude of links for activities and application. Resources for instruction and practice include: multi-sensory integration, learning styles (Kolb, 1984) and Multiple-Intelligences (Gardner, 1983), and brained-based learning.

Common Core State Standards Implementation
"In June 2010, the State Board of Education adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as the new standards for K-12Mathematics and English Language Arts. These standards improved upon Michigan's current standards (the Grade Level Content Expectations and the High School Content Expectations) by establishing clear and consistent goals for learning, and allow Michigan to work collaboratively with other states to provide curricular support to schools and educators." taken from http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,4615,7-140-28753_64839_64848---,00.html
